Pisces Vitaworms - Black Soldier Fly Larvae 500g Bulk

Packed in a calico bag - transfer immediately to bulk insect housing after arrival

Vitaworms are the larvae of Black Soldier Flies (Hermetia illucens). They are also sometimes called Calci-worms or BSFL.

Live Food Vitaworms are a high calcium food that naturally has a balanced calcium and phosphorous ratio. They are high in protein, particularly lysine, a vital amino acid and have 20 times more calcium than crickets.

There is natural variation in the age & colour of the vitaworms you will receive, ranging from creamy white to brownish black. They become more still as they darken and then hatch into Black Soldier Flies. They are edible at all stages of life.

If it’s your first time ordering BSFL, perhaps order a smaller amount rather than a bulk.

Vitaworms or Black Soldier Fly Larvae are suitable for bearded dragons, blue tongue lizards, geckos, other reptiles, turtles, chickens, ducks and other poultry, fish such as cichlids, barramundi and oscars, wild birds, spiders, scorpions, millipedes and centipedes.

Storage:- Black Soldier Fly Larvae

Keep at room temperature for several days. They will keep in the fridge alive (in a not too cold fridge - wine fridge or make up fridges are preferable) for a week or so and can be frozen for longer storage. Allow to come to room temperature before feeding to your animals. Wheat Bran is a suitable substrate to top up your BSFL.

They are great for adding to your compost bin or heap to naturally assist with compost decomposition. They can be helpful to break down waste in deep litter chicken coops.

Please take care when unpacking your Insects.  Sometimes other insects decide to enjoy life in our insect grow-rooms. Whilst every care is taken to ensure that no hitchhikers are present in our Live Food products, sometimes other species will be present. Feel free to contact us if you would like an identification.

Great feed

I have been buying my bearded dragons live feed from Reptile Realm for 18months now. I have never had an issue with any of the insects. I buy bulk dubias mealworms & have just started vitaworms again as my dragon would not eat the previously. My dragon is a difficult feeder & extremely fussy. All my orders have come very fast & in perfect condition, even in heat waves. My dragon has never had parasites. I am really happy with Reptile Realm's service & the high quality of all their live insects. I have also purchase pollen & vitamins. I can recommend Reptile Realm for all your feeding needs. They also test for parasites which is really important to me.

Brilliant

It’s so important to be able to offer the wild baby birds I raise the closest possible diet to what they’d eat in the wild, and the most nutritious options available. Some of these babies have parasite burdens and other issues to contend with, and there is no one big thing I can do to guarantee them a successful return to the wild, so I think every little advantage I can give them helps. I’m so pleased to have a reliable source for black soldier fly larvae in particular as it’s so incredibly nutritious. My current babies are all loving them 🥰
